sophageal vances develop most commonly in patients with iiver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Variceal bleeding is a very serious complication with a reported moqality rate of 20 % - 50 %. Patients who have had a
variceal haemorrhage are usually treated by endoscopic injection sclerotherapy or band ligation to eradicate the varices.
Endoloop ligation is a new technique invented to achieve hemostasis and variceal eradication.
The a1m of the present work is to assess the effectiveness of endoloop ligation in initial hemostasis and to eradicate the esophageal varices in comparison to band ligation.
This work included fifty patients with acute esophageal variceal bleeding, 25 patients were managed by band ligation and the other 25 patients were managed by endoloop ligation. The two groups were statistically compared regarding the initial hemostasis, early and late rebleeding, eradication and recurrence of varices.
Although the number of patients who rebled during the follow-up was smaller in the endoloop group (12%) compared to the band group (28%), yet, this difference did not reach statistical significance. Also no |
